Standardised Prices

You will find that most of the text books listed on this website have a standardised price. The standardised pricing scheme determines the selling price from the orginal purchase price of the book and its current quality. The standardised pricing scheme is as follows:

Excellent Quality: 60% of Original Purchase Price

Good Quality: 50% of Original Purchase Price

Average Quality: 40% of Original Purchase Price

Why Standardised Pricing- Buyers

The standardised pricing scheme means that prices are proportionate to their actual value (ie. content, materials, type etc determined by the 'original purchase price') and are adjusted for their current quality (ie. wear & tear which is the effect of them being 'second hand.') Buyers can be sure that they are getting a quality book and still getting good value for money.

Why Standardised Pricing- Sellers

If you buy a book new, use it throughout the semester and it suffers the usual wear and tear, then you sell it second hand for only 20% of the purchase price you are leaving a lot of extra value on the table. The standardised pricing scheme ensures that you will get maximum value for your book when you sell it.

Buyers

Want to Buy?

Buyers, if you see a text book listed which you would like to purchase simply email us at hand2handtextbooks(AT)hotmail(DOT)com and we will set up a time and place to meet to make the exchange if you live in Adelaide. If you don't live in Adelaide (or if you prefer) we can organise the text books to be posted to you.

Book Prices

Most of the books you will find listed here have a standardised price which is determined by the quality of the book and the original purchase price. The standardised prices are as follows:

Excellent Quality: 60% of purchase Price

Good Quality: 50% of purchase Price

Average Quality: 40% of purchase Price

For the reasons why we have chosen to use a standardised pricing scheme follow this link.

You will find that some text books have prices that don't fit the above scheme, this will happen in special circumstances such as if the seller wants to sell the book quickly.

Payment

At this stage we are only accepting cash payments if the books are collected in person. If you are receiving your books by post we will accept payment by Bank Transer & Money Order (paypal also coming soon). If you are making a larger purchase (ie. multiple books) we can organise an alternate payment method to cash if you with, just email us to discuss.

Questions

If you have any questions at all about the text books themselves or the buying process or anything else feel free to email us at hand2handtextbooks(AT)hotmail(DOT)com

About Us

Once upon a time Uni used to be free, nowadays however, a University Course can end up costing you thousands of dollars. The last thing you want is more expenses, but thats exactly what you get each and every semester when you have to buy text books. "Thats Ok," you say, "I can just buy second hand text books and sell them when I'm finished"- a great idea but easier said than done. We've found that there are a few different ways to buy and sell second hand text books but none of them are really satisfactory. At Hand 2 Hand Text Books we combine all of the 'not so good' methods together as well as a few of our own to get your books sold ASAP, and of course the more books to sell, the more books there are for you to buy.

Sellers

First time here? Check out our About Us Page.

Why Sell Your Text Books?

Depending on your study habbits, your text books will come out of the tail end of the semester with varying amounts of wear and tear but will rarely be totally worn out, infact often there will be hardly any signs that they've even been used at all. Why would you want to store them at the back of your cupboard or put them on the book shelf never to be used again when they still have so much more to give? Selling your used text books can reduce your uni expenses considerably over your student life.

Our Service

If you decide to sell with us all you need to do is arrange to get the text book(s) to us (drop off/ pick up/post) and give us the BSB and Account Number of your chosen bank account and we will do the rest. We will list your text books with a detailed description and picture on this website as well as other websites, lists and forums to get you maximum exposure to potential buyers. We can organise an ebay listing as well if your book is more likely to sell in other states (other than SA). We will take care of all contact with potential buyers/ buyers and we will take care of the exchange of the text book and payment. Once the text book is sold we will transfer the money (less our 10% commission) into your designated account via internet banking. (we can organise an alternate payment method such as money order/ paypal if you wish).

Selling Prices

Most books sold with us will be sold at standised prices. The prices depend on two things, the orginal purchase price and the condition of the text book. The prices are as follows:

Excellent Quality: 60% of Purchase Price

Good Quality: 50% of Purchase Price

Average Quality: 40% of Purchase Price

For the reasons why we have chosen to use a standardised pricing system follow this link.

*Exceptions: in some cases books may have to be sold at prices other than those listed above, such as if there is low demand for the text book, a new edition has come out outdating yours, the course previously using your text has switched to another etc.

**Quick Sell: The other exception is the 'quick sell' option for those who want to sell their text books asap for some quick cash.

Selling prices will be discussed when you list with us, feel free to email us if you have any questions.

Our Fees

The only fee that applies is a 10% comission of the sale price of your book AFTER it is sold. We will subtract the fee from the total for you before transfering into your nominated account.

Example

Betty buys a new text book for $100 at the start of the semester.

At the end of the semester she emails Hand 2 Hand Text Books to organise a listing.

Betty drops the book off to Hand 2 Hand and nominates her bank account giving us the details.

We decide that the book is still in excellent condition and list it for $60 (60% of Original purchase price which was $100)

Dave sees the listing and emails Hand 2 Hand to organise to purchase the text book.

We set up an exchange time and place with Dave and collect the payment of $60.

We subtract our commission of $6 (10% of selling price of $60)

We transfer the remainder ($54) into Betty's nominated account via internet banking
